YMCA WA’s Morley Sport and Recreation Centre is thrilled to announce Mayor Barry McKenna will open this year’s Colour of Light art exhibition on Tuesday December 13, which showcases the hard work and dedication our adult art students have produced over the last few years.
The Mayor will officially open the exhibition for sale of the pieces and to thank all artists, from 6:45pm on the second Tuesday in December, as we acknowledge the growth of the program since it began.
YMCA WA CEO Ross Kyrwood will deliver an address to those present at the unveiling, to draw light to the inspiring commitment of the adult art students.
‘The exhibition is a fantastic way to inspire people in the community by showcasing the talent and the potential all students can reach by participating in these classes,’ Ross said.
When the program started a mere few years ago, there was one class teaching the fundamentals of painting. Today we boast four different offerings ranging from beginner level to intermediate and advanced, as well as portrait-focused classes.
The programs were developed as a way to engage adults in a creative and specialised way, and with many going on to win numerous awards and selling paintings at galleries and exhibitions, the natural talent is undeniable.
The classes have attracted almost 40 students from as near as the City of Bayswater to as far as 45 minutes away, for the artists to get the chance to work alongside head instructor and highly acclaimed artist D’hange Yammanee.
A self-taught artist, D’hange has had over twelve Solo Exhibitions, winning more than 50 art prizes for his landscapes, portraits and abstract paintings, and was selected to represent Western Australia in Italy as a Visual Artist in 2001.
Many of the participants have been in the classes since the program was established, and have an amazing relationship with the Art Guru that keeps them coming back.
Dress is smart casual and entry will be a gold coin donation for wine and cheese inside. The profits from the exhibition will go back into the program to allow equipment and supplies to be subsidised in the future.
The exhibition doors open at 6:30pm on Tuesday December 13th with the official unveiling taking place at 6:45pm.
